Data Stories

Data Stories is the companion app to Data Stories: Data Science for the Middle School years, available from on-line book stores. The Data Stories book offers eleven lessons that gently introduce middle school age kids to the concepts of Big Data and how to use it to tell stories. It uses big geographic data (often called GIS data) and enables the student to create PDF maps that tell stories about specific locations. The lessons use North American data at both the national and local levels. As a bonus, the Data Stories Companion App then goes on to introduce the kinds of biological Big Data that students should be exploring in their high school years. Skill at handling Big Data is pre-requisite to 21st century life science.
